At long last we have some young Welsh racers making tracks in single seater racing and Richard Singleton from  Llanfairfechan in Noth Wales, driving his RS Racing Formula Renault 2000 car won the 9^th round of the 2006 BARC Formula Renault championship at Pembrey on Sunday, to extend his lead in the championship. Singleton, who started from pole position, dominated the race from the outset, leaving his main rivals, Jordan Oakes & Rossi scrapping for the minor places.  Quickly building up a 2 second gap, he began to extend it throughout the race on his way to his 4^th win of the season. Afterwards Richard said "The plan is always to get into the lead and pull way, but rarely does it go so well. The car was good, there was so much grip and I could see Jordan & Rossi fighting in my mirrors so I knew I had to go for it while I had the chance" Singleton now has a 17 point lead over 2^nd place man Jordan Oakes. Singleton was also backed up by his mate Hywel Lloyd from Corwen, who finished in a fighting 5^th place. The next race in the 12 race series is at Thruxton on 17^th September and its nice to see someone taking the Welsh flag to the fore in single seaters for the first time in many years.

  Singleton maintains his lead in the 2006 Formula Renault Championship

Richard Singleton from Conway maintained his points lead in the 2006 BARC Formula Renault championship, after finishing second in the 10th of the 12 races series at the high speed Thruxton circuit on Saturday. Singleton was 4^th in practice and after a race full of incidents and accidents, found himself in 2^nd place in the closing laps behind his main championship rival Jordan Oakes. Coming up to the chicane on the final lap Singelton and Oakes were side but side "I could have tried to outbrake him for the lead but I knew I had nothing to gain and a lot to loose if it went wrong, so I slipped into second place." The final races in the championship are at Brands Hatch next Saturday & Sunday and having saved a fresh set of tyres for both races, Singleton was feeling relaxed and confident "I feel quite comfortable and I dont feel under pressure. I know I’ve got 2 sets of new tyres for the weekend and we had a good test at Brands Hatch last week so I feel I can finish the championship on top"

Singleton was also backed up by his RS team-mate Hywel Lloyd from Corwen, who finished the 12 lap race in 6^th place.

The final races in the 12 race series are at Brands Hatch on Saturday 23 & Sunday 24 September.
