Also in the year, Sept 1993 saw a classic race with long time Welsh racer and noted character Colin Williams. Colin took the race win in his giant Martini Porsche but he was pressured early on by Martin Davies and his Ford Escort RS2000, but Martin began to drop back as the fumes from Colins’ turbo began to affect him.

However at this time Mike Lamplough ( 1190 c.c Davrian Mk6) was beginning to threaten and in the closing laps he set a time of 66.11 secs (79.42 mph)…. This remains as the fastest time ever set by a 1600c.c. car at Pembrey.

At the end, Colin held off Mike by the narrowest margin.

Later Mike went on to be only driver to take an outright victory in a 1600 c.c car
