2013 Welsh Sports &
Saloon Car Championship Title Decider
by web editor Rob Allender
Chris Morris - Current Points Leader!
The 2013 Welsh Sports & Saloon Car
Championship reaches its’ climax at Pembrey on Sunday 20th
October, with everything still up grabs!
5 drivers are in contention for the overall title with
Chris Morris in pole position with 70 points already scored;
Mike Edgell has 56 points, Keith White has 51
points and Neil Watts & Andy Long have a mathematical chance
with 47 points. A lot depends on the amount of
entries in their classes but whilst Chris. Neil & Mike have
already used their jokers, Keith & Andy still have their double
score Joker card to play. Still Mike, Neil, Keith & Andy will
have to win their class in both of the days’ two races, whilst
Chris has only to score 15 more points to make all the
calculations pointless, if you’ll excuse the pun!
Keith commented ”I
don’t think I can do it, but I will be going for it!”
Chris in the meantime, will be hedging
his bets and will be bringing over several sets of wheels and
tyres as his Suzuki Ignis is eligible for 2 classes. “I’ll make
a decision on the day on what class to run in, which is why I am
bringing over the extra wheels and tyres. The rules allow it, so
I will be looking at the options”
Class Operators
In the classes only Keith White (BMW
Silhouette, Class D) is secure as his nearest rival, Endaf
Evans, cannot outscore him!
In Class AS Mike Edgell and his classic
style Mini is virtually tied with Craig Freeman and his modern
Mini, and both drivers still have to play their double score
Joker cards!
In class BS only 10 points cover Roger
Dowden with the Swansea Metropolitan Unis’ Locost for Jon
Vamplew and his Westfield, with both drivers also still to play
their double score Joker cards.
In Class BT Chris Morris is well in
charge and only needs to score 2 points to outscore his class
rivals Huw Morgan (Honda) and Giles Beck (BNW). The class runner
up spot is still up for grabs with only 1 point separating Huw &
Giles , and with Paul Flinders (MR2) in with a mathematical
chance!
Class CS may look like the Haverfordwest
class with Neil Watts (Westfeild) on 47 points and fellow Westy
Jason Davies (Sapphire turbo) on 31 points, with his Joker in
hand. However Andy Williams (non-turbo Sapphire)from Risca will
be looking to spoil the West Wales party if he can, as he has 30
points and also has his Joker to play!
Finally in Class M Andy Long (Sylva
Phoenix) has 14 points lead over Michael Cond ( Slyva Riot) and
both still have their Joker cards to play! Michael has been
experimenting with different roll-bars. David Lawrence (also
Slyva Riot) and Mellisa Lufferelli ( Moto Mini) are also not
without chances if either Andy or Mike falter, as they also have
their Joker cards to play in what is the closest of the class
battles in the 2013 Welsh Sports & Saloon Car Championship.
