Pembrey Rounds 8, 9 & 10 September 6th

Final 3 rounds of the WSSCC 2026 - James Harvey Champion

Pembrey Rounds 8, 9 & 10 September 6th

Qualifying - Pembrey 5th 2026

Those kind people who organise the Barc Wales Sprint made space in their Programme to allow us to run 3 races at Pembrey. Its mutually beneficial as we are helping them by topping up their budget.

Wayne Spiller won the first 3 WSSCC Races in May with his usual Seat, but subsequently had a big one, and the damage was very extensive and very expensive to repair in the UK. Having seen a possible replacement for sale near Amsterdam, with a whole load of spares, Wayne made the trek to Holland to replace the car and came back with the car sporting a whole load of Dutch stickers. It looked an inspired choice, and he took the new car on 3 wins!

Colin Dunn, our 2020 champion made an Invitation entry , and he sported a Beard! I recognised his mum & Dad but I missed him as I wasn’t aware of the new hirsute Colin.  However, he made good use of his Renault Clio and was  3rd after Saturday  Qualifying

Actually Wayne was on pole! James Harvey Porsche Boxster S (our Points Leader) was 2nd and Colin Dunn Renault Clio was 3rd.  Cerredig WILLIAMS Volkswagon Scirocco was 4th with Grayham HUXTER Renault Clio 172 5th Thomas FOWLER Audi TT 1984 was 6th

Whilst 5th was new guy Tom SELDON (Mazda RX8) .Daniel BURDEN Volkswagon Golf GTI 1998 was 7 th and Verity was 8th.

Race 1 9.00 AM Sunday 6th September-10 mins Rolling Start

Wayne took the lead he was never to lose.  But behind him it was all change with a fast-staring Graham Huxter in  2nd place and Colin Dunn in 3rd place. James Harvey had race long dice with Cerredig Williams. Tom Sheldin made 6th place all his own. Whilst Tom Fowler had Verity on his case!  However Dan Burden had a spin and stopped in a dangerous place. So the red flags came out and ended the race at 7 laps.! Even Verity was on the same lap as the leader!

The sprinters then started their practice runs!

Race 2 After Dinner Break  Sunday 6th September-10 mins Rolling Start

In time honoured WSSCC fashion the grid for race 2 was the finishing order of race One.

So Wayne took the lead with Graham Huxter in  2nd place. But not for long Graham made a hash of the paddock turn, and went sideways in front of the rest of the pack! Each of the rest made their way past, and Colin Dunn was 2nd but he had James Harvey as close company throughout the race. In one of the dices of the race. Harvey made to pass Dunn but Dunn repassed him as they lapped the back-markers, and had a few seconds in hand to finish 2nd behind the flying Seat of Wayne Spiller who set 13 laps   To close the story of Graham Huxter, he got going but it sounded like he had trapped his spillter underneath the car, so he retired to the paddock! Tom Sheldon was 4th. But Daniel Burden was delayed, and ended up behind Verity Banks, who drove like the wind to make sure she kept 5th place, although Burden made it close. Still Verity was beaming to think she didn’t finish last.  Ceredig Williams early on and Tomas Fowler late on, where both DNFs.

During the break we had visits from Doug Forbes, Mike Cook and Andy Williams, all without their cars! Doug has been ill, Mikes car was in bits and Andy had a bad back or something related.

The sprinters then started their timed runs!  Steve BROUGHTON driving a SBD DJ Firehawk MK2 set the FTD (Fastet Time of the Day)

Race 3  3.30 6th September-10 mins Rolling Start - last event of the Day and 2026

Although we were last it was perhaps the earliest start/finish we have ever had.

Race 3  was another Classic! Behind the fleeing Wayne Spiller, (who has won the Blake Edwards Race Winners Trophy with 6 wins at Pembrey) with Colin Dunn in 2nd place on lap 1. But James Harvey was out for revenge and overtook Colin on lap 2 and set the Class B fastest lap ( James has won the Colin Gundersen Trophy for the Fastest laps  at Pembrey in addition to being the overall winner) however Colin Dunn was in touch in 3rd  Place,, In 4th  Place Tom Sheldon seemed to get on top of the Mazda . but by lap 8 we had lost Thomas Fowler (Audi TT) and lap 2 Grayham Huxter ( Renault Clio 172).

However Dan Burden and Ceredig Williams had a close dice and Verity was the last runner. On the closing laps James Harvey lost pace and was passed by Colin Dunn and  Tom Sheldon.

So it was Wayne Spiller (1st), Colin Dunn (2nd) and Tom Sheldon (3rd)

At the race prize-giving, Colin was given the award as “Driver of the Day” And he certainly deserved it!

James Harvey finished 4th but as the first 3 had nothing for the championship, he  picked up another points haul to confirm that he is the 2026 Welsh Champion!
