News of WRDA members who are competing in the International & Single Seater arena.

Seb set for Mega Month

WRDA member Seb Morris is set for a Mega month in October, starting on Thursday 4th October when he will be the subject of an hour long documentary on Sky F1 HD (see seperate story). Then after the final races in 2012 Protyre Formula Renault Championship on the weekend 6/7th. (see below and also live on ITV4) he will be off to Spa Francorchamps of the Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup races  (see seperate story)

Seb Morris & Andy Meyrick will both be competing at this weekend October 6/7th  Silverstone; Morris in the final rounds of his championship & Meyrick in the penultimate one of his.  Morris is in contention for 3rd place in the 2012 Protyre Formula Renault Championship, whilst Meyrick will be racing in the Porsche Carrera GB series. Morris held the lead in his championship early on but a mid season slump say him drop from being the leader down as far as 5th place, until a timely podium finish in the last race at Donington Park saw him bounce back up to 4th  place . This has put him within16 points of regaining 3rd place from David Wagner, who now holds the place. Even if he doesn’t manage to close the points gap, it will still have been a very good year for double Junior Champion Seb.

Respected journalist and long time observer of the Formula Renault Championship Marc Orme, confirmed this saying. “It’s already been a Mega year for Seb, taking 5 poles, 3 wins + 3 fastest laps, in the first 6 races. No-one can take that away from him. It was just unfortunate that he had a lot of problems after that. Having an engine go down at Thruxton wasn’t anything to do with him and in other cases when he has done what a racer has to do, it just hasn’t worked out for him. “

When considering Morris’ opposition it is clear that several of his immediate rivals are older, or could be considered too experienced, to be racing in what is a relatively low rung on the senior racing ladder.

For instance current points leader, Scott Malvern at age 23 is in his 4th year of single seat racing, and is already a multiple championship and award winner!

David Wagner, a 19 year old Scot from Glasgow, is in his 3rd year in Formula Renault and was 2nd overall in the 2010 Formula Renault BARC Winter Cup, after an extensive career in Karting reaching as far back to 2005!

Josh Webster, an 18 year old from Ipswich, is also in his 3rd year in the championship. After finishing 3rd in 2011 he had originally signed to race at a higher level, until the planned upgrade failed!

Macaulay Walsh at age 17 from Northampton, is in his 2nd year in the Protyre Formula Renault BARC Championship having had an extensive career in Karting starting at 9 years old!

Still having got back on the podium with another Fastest Lap to his name in the last race, and had some excellent grades from his GSCE results, Sebs confidence should be sky high, and he has every chance of finishing the year in fine style.

TV coverage on Sunday, 7th October, when the final race of the campaign will be screened live on ITV4 and ITV4 HD at approximately 15.10.

Round 13, which isn’t televised, is timetabled for Saturday, 6th October, at 16.30  Live Timing on http://www.tsl-timing.com/

Meanwhile Andy Meyrick who will be racing in the Porsche Carrera GB series, has bizarrely found himself to be the oldest driver in the championship at age 26! The Porsche Carrera GB Championship seems to be full of the rough & tumble of motorsport, with some of Meyricks’ fellow competitors guilty of some dubious driving tactics, and as a new driver on the scene, he was subject to a dubious decision by the Scottish race stewards during the recent races in Scotland. However whilst Meyrick is effectively marking time, whilst his plans for 2013 come to fruition, he will be keen to put on a good display, having already had a 3rd place finish in one of the earlier rounds.
