Epic win 1 for Seb at Silverstone!

Seb  (orange car 31) dominates the huge 32 car grid from the start

WRDA member, & current WRDA Young Driver of the Year, Seb Morris blitzed all his rivals in the Penultimate round of the 2012 Protyre Formula Renault BARC Championship at Silverstone on Saturday 6th October, including Matthew Brabham, the latest member of the Brabham dynasty to start racing. with the National circuit in use this time, Morris was fastest in pre-racing testing on Friday and carried that through to Saturdays’ qualifying when, on a damp and drying track he made a timely and welcome return to his early season form, and tied up Pole for both of the weekends’ races, taking his seasons total to 7, more poles than another driver in the championship ! As the lights changed to start the race Morris went into a lead he was never to loose, building a lead of over a second on the opening lap alone before pumping in a series of fastest laps from lap four onward, eventually taking the Fastest Lap of the race (just a few hundredths shy of a new lap record), meaning he was able to max out his points haul, enabling him to climb back up to 3rd in title standings, and pulled an important 21 point gap to 4th place man David Wagner who failed to even make around the first lap!.

Happy days-Seb shares the podium with 2nd place Josh Webster (left) and Scott Malvern

Speaking after the podium celebrations Seb, reflecting on his fourth win of the season, said  “I tried my best, I got my head down and just got into qualifying mode – but I did make sure I was smooth and conserved my tyres throughout the race. I kept an eye on the gap and if I was a tenth down one lap, I’d go a tenth quicker on the next lap. To show you’re quick at the end of the season is as important as winning the championship for a driver in their first year like me, so to win today is fantastic. The televised round tomorrow is the one to win though, we’ll see what happens!”

The final race of the Protyre Formula Renault BARC Championship season will take place today  Sunday, 7th October, at 15.10 and will be screened live across the UK on Freeview, digital satellite and cable channel ITV4, in High Definition on ITV4 HD and with the addition of online streaming at www.itv.com/btcc

Along with headline sponsor Protyre, Formula Renault BARC is additionally supported by Michelin, The Lubricant Consultancy, Petronas Syntium and NGK Spark Plugs.
