WRDA members Richard Singleton & Alex Morgan both scoop some Euros at Estoril
Happy Days! Richard & Alex flank a chunky Valtteri Bottas on the Estoril podium
Richard from Llanfairfechan, scored his first podium finish of the year in the Renault Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 Championship, after finishing 2nd in race 2 at Estoril on Sunday in front of a staggering 54 cars, leaving him delighted his performance. "It has been a fantastic weekend , I cant stop smiling! Weve being making progress over the last few races and we made a big step forward this weekend with the car set-up. Also I approached the weekend differently. Ive tried to relax a bit and be more confident and that has made a massive difference" In the race Richard lined up on the front row with Finnish driver Valtteri Bottas. Bottas got the strongest start but Richard was in a good rhythm and despite 2 safety cars and the close attentions of fellow WRDA member Alex Morgan, he was only 1 second behind Bottas at the end of the 15 lap race. After the race Richard said "I'm very happy. This is my first podium finish in this series. The safety car helped me a lot as my tyres were really suffering and Alex Morgan was gaining fast. I couldn't be happier if I'd won. I really feel my confidence is back up again and we are coming good at the right time!"
Estoril duel - Richard and Alex right up at the sharp end
Richard was joined on the podium by Bridgend racer Alex Morgan. Alex himself commented on his 3rd place "I had problems in qualifying but we were competitive. I got a very good start and went into the first bend in third place. After the safety cars, I tried to put Richard under pressure but this podium finish is as sweet as a win!"
The next race in the Eurocup is in Barcelona in 3 weeks time.
(Richard & Alex were 9th and 11th respectively in race 1)
