Meyrick & Lloyd picked as rising stars
Up and coming Welsh drivers Andy Meyrick & Hywel Lloyd has been picked out by the most prestigious organisation in UK motorsport as potential future champions by the British Racing Drivers Club, who own Silverstone and run the British Grand Prix to join their Rising Stars of the sport.
The BRDC Rising Star scheme opens the door to the prestigious British Racing Drivers Club to young racers and is an invitation only programme for a selection of the most talented up and coming racing drivers in the UK.
The Club membership list reads like a whos who of British motorsport with past presidents including Sir Jackie Stewart and Lord Hesketh while another former Formula One world champion, Damon Hill, is the current president.
A delighted Andy said, Its a real honour to be recognised by the BRDC, which is made up of many drivers I would like to emulate in the future. To be associated with a name such as the BRDC is a privilege and Im sure will be a great help in my career. Its great to think that my results in F3 have been recognised, and I hope to be able to repay the faith of the BRDC by winning the National Class Championship this year.
Hywel also said: "This is a very big honour for me and I am so happy and proud to receive this honour because the BRDC is hugely respected here and across the world. It shows that all the hard work we have done as a team is being recognised and opens up many opportunities for me within the sport."
BRDC Secretary Stuart Pringle added, Weve been very impressed with Andy & Hywels' performances this season and are confident he has the potential to be a very successful racing driver in the future. We believe that by making them a Rising Star, we can help that process and we look forward to welcoming them as a Full BRDC Member in due course. This is purely invitation only so the only way to get into this is on merit."
Stuart Pringle added: "We recognise it can be difficult for young racing drivers to attract attention and sponsorship so by giving this status we are showing that we recognise their achievements and their potential.
"We also want to attract talented and successful young racing drivers to make sure the Club goes from strength to strength."
