Andy in happier times

Unfortunately Hywel Lloyd was Wales' only representative in Formula 3a t Spa as although Andy Meyrick is now out of hospital although he was still too unwell to race.

Having already texted me to say a thank you for all our thoughts and concerns, Andy rang me to confirm he is on the mend   "I'm back home now but I was in hospital for 3 weeks. I did feel unwell for a few days before I went to the doctor, and he sent me straight to hospital. It turns out that I had a viral infection, and it was very nasty. They decided to treat it agressively and for the first 2 weeks I was a little out of it, the third week was very painful though. The doctors say the virus is still inside me so I've got some way to go, however they have said it shouldn't affect my driving once it's all cleared up. I've lost about a stone in weight, so I've got to build up my muscles and work on my fitness, so I don't know if I'll be fit enough to race again this season, but I thank everyone for their thoughts"

At the moment the points Andy scored in the early part of the year is still enough to keep him in 2nd place in the National Class.

On the Official F3 site a frustrated Andy was quoting as saying, “Obviously I’m incredibly disappointed not to be able to race at Spa this weekend.  Not only is it one of the most exciting tracks in Europe, missing two more rounds is a massive blow to my season in British F3.  Becoming ill in the middle of the year was the worst thing possible, but I have to put aside my frustration at the situation and focus on getting better soon.”

Carlin director Martin Stone added, “It’s too early to say yet when Andy will be able to return to racing, the priority at the moment is for him to receive the best care possible and to make a good recovery.  The positive news is that Andy is feeling some improvement day-by-day, and I’m sure no-one is more anxious than he is to see him in a race car again soon.”
