Singletons Snetterton score
2007
International & Single Seater News
Richard Singleton continued his current scoring form in the Formula Renault UK Championship at the high speed Snetterton circuit in Norfolk on Sunday. With a combination of super long straights, and demanding corners, Snetterton often produces close racing and spectacular incidents with groups of cars slipstreaming themselves. Singleton was 7th in practice of both races and settled into 6th early on in the first race, at the rear of a group of cars including Riki Christoldolu and Alex Sims. With plenty of close racing between the bunch the situation was resolved in Singletons favour when Christoldolu and Sims clashed in the final laps, taking each other off and promoting Richard to 4th place overall and 2nd in the Graduate Class.
Race 2 was just as eventful but with most of the action on 1st lap! Richard explained "I got a good start and was up to 5th going into Sears corner, but then there was carnage at the front with cars going off. I was able to avoid it all but came out of it back in 8th place! I managed to get back up to 6th by the end of the first lap but after Adam Christoldolu*, spun in front of me, I was left on my own in 5th place. I was too far away from the 4th place man to challenge him and Adam was a long way back, so it was a very quiet race from then on" Even so 5th place overall and 1st in the Graduate Class was a good reward to add to his earlier 4th place, consolidating his 5th place in the Championship.
The next races are at Brands Hatch on 18/19 August, and it will be interesting to compare progress at this the second visit of the year to the famous Kentish track. "Im looking forward to it" *Adam and Riki Christoldolu are cousins.
