Press Release - for immediate issue
The Welsh Sports & Saloon Car Championship is moving forward into the 2008
season with a wholesale re-vamp to the regulations to refocus on Saloons and Road based sportscars, in a move that is sparking great excitement and anticipation.Championship Co-ordinator Alan Jenkins said The championship is open to all and you dont have to be Welsh to join in the fun. Bristol based Keith Butcher, the current champion, is not the only English driver to win the Welsh Championship in its 18 year history. We are a very friendly bunch, and although we have been noted as Gentleman racers, dont let that fool you, there is plenty of competition throughout the field!
With 7 dates pencilled in at Pembrey and an away round in Anglesey, there is also a special welcome at Pembrey for all visiting championships. We know the trip to Pembrey is a long way for some people, so we are happy for drivers and teams to try to maximise their weekend by joining us as guest drivers. As a part of the new initiative for 2008, there are 3 classes for Saloons & Roadsports; up to 1600 - 1601 to 2000 - Over 2000, plus a Special Classes for ex BTCC cars. There are also Marque awards if we have over 4 cars from one manufacturer and awards for the Best Guest and a Best Lady award.
Also new for 2008 will be 3 races over the weekend.
