June 11th 05 race report

Round 6 2005 Welsh Championship. Saturday 11th June.

Entry & Practice

On a hot and sunny day the grid was headed by Dave Krayem with a rather quick looking pole lap just under 56 secs (55.92 actually). Jeff Davies was 2nd and the fastest of the Radicals ahead of Peter Williams, who was making a welcome return, Clive Hayes, Richard Rhozon and Huw Williams, who was the last of the Radicals and last of the sports-cars. Lee David was the first Saloon in 7th place, on 67.603 secs ahead of Kenny Rattenbury (68.929). Then in batch from 69.25 secs to 69.95 secs were Matthew Perkins, championship points leader Andy Williams, (still suffering from bad handling) Anthony Allitt & Richard Hill. Stephen Pearcy, Doug Bowketts and Chris Davies were also just as close, with Adrian Chapman making it 16 runners

The race .. 15 mins + 1 lap. Rolling Start.

Dave Krayem wins, Peter keeps him honest. Andrew Williams recovers to maintain his title lead.

The sunny weather continued for the race, but pole sitter Dave Krayem by his own admission was "sleeping". Peter & Clive however were wide awake. "Dave looked like he was asleep and I went one way, Clive went the other" said Peter afterwards. Peter emerged in the lead and although Dave soon recovered and passed Clive, Peter held on the lead for a couple of laps before the Sleath took the lead. Clive held on the 3rd place, still troubled by mystery fuel feed problems, but Richard & Huw had an interesting dice for 4th & 5th places. Or rather Richard did "My extinguisher went off and I couldn’t see anything! I had to slow down to clean my visor, and Huw shot past. Once I got it clean I was able to work to catch him and pass him again!" Huw was 5th but unfortunately Jeff Davies was nowhere to be seen having dropped out about half way through "My electrics went dead" Jeff was trying to be cheerful but wasn’t able to make it out for Sunday. Andy Williams was the leading saloon in 6th well clear any pursuers after sorting out his handling problems to get back to his normal pace. Lee David was 7th and had a handy lead from a duelling batch of 5 cars with only just about a second between them headed by Stephen Pearcy, with Matthew Perkins, Richard Hill, Anthony Allitt, Douglas Bowkett and Chris Davies all in close attendance. Ken Rattenbury was 14th, with Adrian Chapman 15th but making some real progress with really handy lap time of 63.563 secs which was not too far from Nigel Hughes benchmark time!
