The race was won after one of the best dices seen by Welsh contenders at Mallory with Graham Miller & Dave Jarman swapping places lap after lap with Graham winning by only .6 of a second. Unfortunately Colin Williams missed the race after setting 3rd fastest time in practice. Colins' engine would not start even after the car was towed around the paddock. Later Colin sold the car to Graham Hollis who, after stripping the engine found it had cracks in the block, which let water into the cylinders and led to the condition know as 'hydraulicing' which had bent the connecting rods!
N.b 'Hydraulicing' refers to the piston coming on to TDC (Top Dead Center)
with both inlet and exaust valves closed and any liquid, usually oil or water in
the cylinder. The liquid not being compressible causes the piston to hammer and
can cause severe engine damage, usually leading to a bent con-rod or worse.
