Welsh Quartet in International
Action
Report by
Rob Allender
GP3 Test News-Jann, Matt
& Seb were all at Estoril in Portugal for the first 2 day GP3
test of the year. Jann Mardenborough was
naturally the fastest having raced in GP3 last year with Arden,
winning one of the Sprint Races, but he has now switched to
Carlin, the top team with
Welsh connections! Jann
@Jannthaman, who ended up 4th fastest
with a time of 1.28.51, has also recently completed the
procedure to qualify to race in the Modern Classic Nurburgring
24hr race which will be held on 14 - 17
May on the full
Nordschleife! The
race is an awesome challenge as the 15.5 mile lap length allows
more than 200 cars and over 700 drivers to participate!
At
the same time Matt Parry (Korianen)
& Seb Morris (Status Grand
Prix) were both getting used the circuit, the car, and the
new to them, Pirrelli tyres, and both set
times in the low 1.29s! By the way joining Matt in the Korianen
team is the Chinese driver Adderley Fong, who has Welsh
connections, having raced in the British F3 Championship with
Hywel Lloyd and the CF Racing team!http://www.gp3series.com/

Endurance Racing -
Meanwhile
in the USA, Andy Meyrick, (who has also raced on the
Nordschleife), failed
to complete a race lap in the Sebring 12hrs race, after broken
rear suspension ended the DeltaWings race after only 60 Laps!
The Claro/TracFone DeltaWing teams drivers Memo Rojas ,
Katherine Legge, and Andy Meyrick began the weekend with hopes
of capitalizing on their performance early in the Rolex 24 at
Daytona. The team qualified in the top-10 for the Mobil 1 Twelve
Hours of Sebring and they were feeling confident of a good
result before Sebring’s 3.74 miles of bumpy concrete and asphalt
took it’s toll! Rojas started the race and handed over to Legge
at the two-hour mark, but the car retired before Andy got his
turn.
