Welsh Duo hope to make a new start in Sochi after Monza
maladies!
Wrda members Matt Parry & Seb Morris are
ready to get back on track in the 2015 GP3 series at Sochi in
Russia, after a bad weekend the last time out at Monza, when
neither Matt or Seb scored any points.
This was a severe disappointment for
Parry, driving with the Koiranen team,
as he had qualified 3rd fastest and crossed the line
in 4th place! However any joy he may have felt was
soon wiped out, when he was disqualified after his car was found
to be underweight by 500 grams after post-race checks!
Afterwards he confirmed “The practice &
qualifying sessions were very good considering that I had only
ever seen Monza on the PlayStation and in the team’s simulator –
but real life is massively different! In race One, I was as high
as 2nd and was really pleased to finish 4th,
but then underweight is underweight!
Race 2 was just as disappointing as his race ended on the
opening lap with an electrical fault! “I went into
race two optimistic that I could come through the pack and
perhaps pick up a few points, but I never had the chance,” Parry
sighed, “The alternator failed at the start, which was why I was
so slow away, and the car just went into safe mode by the time I
got to the second chicane!’ Despite the setback, Matt remains
comfortably in the top ten of the overall championship
standings.
Seb Morris meanwhile was
also in the Monza doldrums although he qualified in a promising
9th place but posted two dnfs. ‘The start of race2
was fine and we started to move forward from the back of the
grid then we had some sort of failure at the chicane which we
need to investigate. It was so disappointing to disqualified and
to be put to the back of the grid for race 2, but it’s a lesson
learned from a team point of view, so hopefully we can have a
issue free weekend in Sochi!’
There are three double-header
rounds remaining on the schedule starting with Round seven of
the 2015 GP3 Series season at the Sochi Autodrom in Russia over
the weekend of 9-11 October, with full coverage on the Sky
Sports F1 channel.
Meanwhile Jann
Mardenborough continues to accmilitise to
GP2 after his recent upgrade to the senior
category with Carlin Motorsport.
