2015 Welsh Championship - Round 6 - Pembrey -Sunday 16th August by Rob Allender

Race 2 -15 Minutes + 1 Lap

Keith leads

Almost un-noticed (by me, well it was a busy day) in race 1, Daryl Radford had stopped late on, and there was a lot of panel bashing going on in the paddock afterwards, as his Honda had a lot of frontal damage. He did make it out for race 2 as did Paul Flinders. However Daryl retired on lap 3 while Paul did actually make it to lap 4 this time!

Don't Blink - you might miss it - Paul Flinders had his problems

As the lights changed, Dave Krayem was the guy making the moves and he lead out of Dibeni with Keith on his tail. Keith made his move later in the lap, and went into the lead and from then on he was never headed. Dave settled into 2nd place, but the story in the early part of the race centred on Martin Davies, who never got going and fell like a stone through the field, before making a short revival. Martin had another bout of the engine cutting in & out, but decided to soldier on to try to pick up some points. Martins problems were good news for Andy Williams who took up 3rd place and the lead of Class CS and set the fastest lap in the class to take maximum points, although it gave him little satisfaction.

There was a war going on over 4th place with a fast starting Sam Summerhayes, leading Ken James with Peter Hills close behind! Ken James got by Sam in the first few laps, leaving him to fend off a rampant Peter Hills! That is until Peter began to slow, and ended up at virtual walking pace, before speeding up, but then with the engine sounding really rough, Peter called it a day on lap 9! Afterwards Peter was soon able to find the problem ‘The crankshaft sensor has come loose!’ A good torqueing and a good dollop of ‘Locktite’ should fix that! This left Sam Summerhayes to harass to Ken James for 4th place, with Mark Harris in 6th with Chris Morris on his heels. Peter Hills departure left Chris Morris in charge of Class AS, but Peter had taken the point for the fastest lap in the class, meaning that the Class is on a knife-edge with only 1 point separating Chris from Peter in the Class Points table!

Early on Dave Scaramanga was 8th but he was running some wets on the rear, after he found his rear slicks had worn down to the canvass! Giles Beck was 9th from a fast starting Tyrone Luffarelli and Nick Rocke with Josh Wright & Huw Morgan in the mix too! Dave started to slip down the order, while Nick was on the rise and put Giles between himself Tyrone and the rest. Roger Dowden (Class AS) overcame a slow start to pass Huw & Tyrone, and start to put the pressure on Giles who was just behind Chris Morris, who was leading Class AS, but more of that later.

Tyrone had got past Josh Wright who had Huw Morgan behind him.  Dave S had by now dropped down the order to run in 12th place, just ahead of Willem Verhaak, who was rocking on with his MX5. In 14th place was Susie Jones, who has thinking that there was something wrong with her Lotus Elise, and so was taking it easy to save the car for a late charge. Colin Dunn, who was recovering from an early spin while under braking for Hatchets, was ahead of Martin Davies who was still trundling on, with Andrew Williams (MG ZR) just ahead of Craig Wright who was counting the laps before he could part company with his BMW.

So as the race entered the later stages there were several situations waiting to develop, but before that could happen, Roger Dowden, who was shaping to pass Giles Beck, missed his braking point at Hatchets and with the little Davrians brakes locked, he slid on and T-boned Giles! With the cars locked together, in the middle of the track, the race was red flagged, which caused some hairy moments as the grid slowed to a stop!  When they got back to the paddock, although the nose of Roger car had broken into 2 or 3 large peices,  the chassis looked OK!

So Keith won his 3rd race of the weekend, thereby making it a clean sweep at Pembrey so far in 2015, winning 6 races in a row!
