Seb Morris rounded-out the third event of the
Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup season at Hockenheim last
weekend, 14th/15th June, sixth in the championship standings
following a weekend of mixed fortunes.
Seb was right on the pace in free practice on Friday
posting the quickest time of the day
during the second run and he carried that over to
qualifying, just missing out on pole position for round five
by a mere 0.026 seconds! However he had to pit
after a cruching encounter on the first lap left with a damaged wing
and forced him into the pits to change the nose cone! Even witjh
some slick work by the Fortec team, Seb emerged
a long way down but fought his way back through into 21st
position at the finish, agonisingly one place
away from the points! However he had the consolation of setting
the second fastest lap of the race to underline what might have been!

Beginning round six on Sunday morning from fourth position, Seb made
a clean start to maintain his placing and
ran strongly during the first two thirds of the race. On lap nine,
though, he was nudged back to fifth where he remained to the flag on
lap 15. Round seven was always going to be an immense challenge for
Seb with his starting slot determined by his finishing position from
the opening race of the weekend. Lining-up on the 11th row of the
grid in 21st place, Seb made a great getaway and put together a
sensational opening lap by slicing his way through into 13th
position. Inside just two laps the
Welshman had gained a remarkable 11 positions to move into
the top 10 and he continued his ascent up the order by taking ninth
on lap three. After claiming eighth on lap five, two tours later Seb
passed points leader Steijn Schothorst for seventh and although
shuffled back on lap 10 to ninth position, the result marked a
superb recovery and serious damage limitation.
“We had a lot of pace this weekend but the first race put us in bad
shape unfortunately, fifth in the second race wasn’t too bad
though”, reflected the category front-runner, “The car was great,
we’ve moved forward a lot with it, and although it’s a shame we
didn’t take the results our pace deserved we can definitely take the
same level of performance forward to Spa.”
