Morris & Meyrick gearing for Silverstone glory! By web editor Rob Allender & Marc Orme
WRDA
members Seb Morris and Andy Meyrick are due to have their only UK races of the
year at Silverstone on the full 3.66-mile Grand Prix Circuit, this weekend 24/25th
May. Morris will be competing in rounds 3 & 4 of the 2014 Formula Renault 2.0
Northern European Cup (NEC) and later on Andy is in the Blancpain GT3 Endurance
Series race.
Seb Morris (left) is currently 9th in the
points standing, after overcoming some major challenges last time out at Monza
with some excellent recovery drives, & is looking to claim the first podium of
the year in the ultra-competitive NEC series and is confident of a strong
outing. Seb finished on the podium last year in the BRDC Formula 4 races and was
perhaps unlucky not to win!
Seb, who is a part of the Caterham F1 teams Academy,
is reunited with Fortec Motorsport for this season, having won races, and a
championship with them in 2012, and is supported by Elite Cymru, Tag Heuer, Jack
Wills clothing as well as Liberty Properties. He is also attracting lots of
attention from the Welsh Media, and was featured in the top S4C Ralio +
programme!
With an extensive schedule of Free practice over the
weekend, qualifying for the Formula Renault 2.0 NEC will take place Friday
afternoon. Round three of season will start at 2.30 on Saturday, with the 2nd
race of the weekend due at 10.15 on Sunday.
Meanwhile Bentley Boy Meyrick, who is also part of
Seb Morris support team, will be gearing up for the second race of the 2014
Blancpain GT3 Endurance Series. Andy is clearly a busy man these days, as he
combines his work with Seb, and the MSA Academy as a
Performance Manager, with driving the Deltawing in America and driving for the
Bentley in Europe! To top it all, he and his team-mates and the Msport
Bentley team are competing in the tough PRO category as one of 8 top teams and
24 drivers, all looking for an outright win in the 3 hour race! Andy, and his
team-mates Guy Smith and Steven Kane finished 8th
in the first race at Monza, a circuit that may not have favoured them. They were
a lap behind the winners Gregoire Demoustier, Alex Premat,
and Alvaro Parente in the ART teams’
McLaren MP4-12C, who virtually lapped the entire field!
However the points scored have put MSport 5th in the teams’ points
standings, with the drivers in a joint 7th place. It will be
interesting to see how the team performs at Silverstone, which has more corners
then Monza and is potential at better track for them. With several Free Practice
sessions on Friday & Saturday, qualifying for the race will be on Sunday at 9.00
am with the race due to start at 3 p.m. N.B Bentleys most historic wins have
been in 24hr races and the Blancpain series will visit Spa in Belgium for The
Total 24 Hours race in July.
