Welsh Drivers bring back some of Continental Silverware!
Matt shares the Moscow
Raceway podium
with
Andrea Pizzitola and the winner Aurelien Panis.
WRDA Welsh driver of the Year Matt Parry
started the ball rolling by taking 3rd place in the
first of 2 races in the 2014 Formula Renault Eurocup at the
Moscow Raceway, behind Andrea Pizzitola and the winner Aurelien
Panis. Matt continued his points scoring progress with a 4th
place finish in race 2, and was only 7/10ths away
from a double podium finish! The points scored in Russia has
moved Matt, who is the best placed British driver out of the 26
strong pack on top young racers, into 10th place in
the points standings with 34 points! The championship is lead by
Dutch driver Nyck De Vries who has 88 points, but with 25 points
for a win and 8 races left, a strong run by Matt could soon see
him climbing the points table! The next race in
the series is on 12/13 July on the Grand Prix circuit at the
Nurburgring. http://www.worldseriesbyrenault.com/Eurocup-Formula-Renault-2-0-3205.html?lang=fr
Jake rocks on at Ricard! Meanwhile
at Paul Ricard, Jake Rattenbury kept the ball rolling with a 2nd
place in AM Class in the first of the weekends races in the 2014
Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trophy Europe, and then followed
that up with a Class win in race 2! Jake is now 3rd
in Class AM Championship standings with 4 more races to go
before the World Final on November 22nd/ 23rd
at Sepang when the top drivers from the North
America, Asia & Europe will go into a global shoot
out!
Andy helps Bentely win with crucial middle stint!
Also
at Paul Ricard, in the main race of the day, The 2014 Blancpain
Watches Endurance Series, Andy Meyrick made
another massive contribution as the M-Sport Bentley team
followed up their Silverstone win with another hard fought, but
seemingly comfortable win with the Bentley Continental GT3 car,
in a day/night race. Andy took over the car
from Guy Smith just over an hour in to the race, with the car in
2nd place some 5 seconds behind their main rivals,
the ART Grand Prix teams' McLaren
MP4-12C driven by Gregoir Demoustier. Closing in at over a
second per lap, Andy was soon directly behind the McLaren, and
was able to make a bold move up the inside of the final corner
to snatch the lead, and then extend it, to hand over the Bentley
with a 6 second lead! This lead would prove vital
when a problem with the front left wheel cost them time at the
pit-stop as Andy handed the car to Steven Kane, for the final
stint! Exiting the pits just ahead of the McLaren, Kane was able
to hold on to the lead crossing the line just 1.1 seconds ahead
for the team’s second win in a row!
After
receiving his winner’s trophy, in a strange and rare night-time
podium ceremony, Andy said “Our team was so strong today. We
were hopeful we’d have good pace, and once we realised how well
our tyres were lasting on the famously tough surface here we
knew we could fight for the victory. It wasn’t easy though, and
we had to give it everything, but the Continental GT3 responds
to being pushed hard. I was really pleased with my stint and
even though I was on used tyres the grip lasted well, which
meant I could build a small lead after I’d had a great fight
with the McLaren to get to the front. All credit to the team
today – the car was fantastic and I can’t wait for the 24 hour
race at Spa.” Andy is now on top of the championship points
along with his team-mates.
The next round of the Blancpain Endurance
Series is the headline event of the year, the Total 24 Hours of
Spa in Belgium. Andy will once again be racing the No. 7
Continental GT3 with Guy Smith and Steven Kane, looking to
extend their lead at the top of the championship.

Before then, Andy will combine an
intensive programme of training with a test day at Spa. Andy
also resumes his driving responsibilities with DeltaWing in
North America, racing at the Mobil 1 Sportscar Grand Prix at the
Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in Ontario.
