Jann scores well in Sochi!  by Rob Allender

Jann Mardenborough, aka ‏@Jannthaman, increased his points total to 77 points after 2 big points scoring races in Sochi, but seemed disappointed with his efforts in Race 2 after a storming drive in Race 1. Starting race 2 in 3rd place, Jann, driving for Arden Motorsport, was initially 2nd in a re-started race, but dropped to finish 4th after losing out to Dean Stoneman & Marvin Kirchofer after a late race Pace-car period! Jann summed up ‘I’m happy to score lots of points this weekend but I will learn from my errors, box them and move on to Abu Dhabi!’ The final races in the 2004 GP3 Series is at Yas Marina 21 - 23 Nov

However Jann has no need to be too despondent as both Stoneman & Kirchofer are both very highly experienced individuals!

Dean Stoneman has been racing since he was 12! But he was eclipsed by fellow Welshman Hywel Lloyd in Lloyds' BARC Formula Renault championship winning season in 2007!

Meanwhile Kirchofer began Karting in 1999 when he was only 8 years old and was the 2013 German F3 Champion!

In race 1 Jann had powered from 11th on the grid, to an excellent 6th place, to score 8 points and seal his 9th place in the points table!  With the grid for race 2 made up by the top 8 finishers starting in reverse order, Jann started in 3rd place, and eventaully finished 4th!

The GP3 Series is a one-make championship consisting of 27 identical cars. The Chassis is designed and built by Dallara Automobili with a AER V6 3.4 litres naturally aspirated engine, 400HP @8000 rpm.

The GP3 Series uses Pirelli PZero tyres in three specifications (hard, medium and soft). Each driver has four sets of dry-weather tyres and two sets of wet-weather tyres available at each event.

No individual developments or upgrades are permitted in the series, and all spare parts must be purchased directly from the GP3 Series. Repairs of structural components must be carried out by Dallara in order to ensure integrity.

There are 2 races in a weekend with the gird for race 2 to decided by reversing the top 8 finishers from race 1.

Points are scored in Race 1 with 25 for 1st place, then 18, 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4,  2, down to 1 point for 10th.

Two points being awarded to the driver who set the fastest lap of the race.

In Race 2 the top eight finishers score points (15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2, 1) and the driver who sets the fastest lap scores two points.

The point for fastest lap in both Race 1 and Race 2 will only be awarded to a driver who finishes in the top 10, and who has started the race from the grid.
