Andy on fire in America - true
story!
Andy Meyrick was only slightly injured after a fuel line rupture
triggered a fire inside the DeltaWing car (pictured left before
the fire) during the 2nd practice session
after he had set 6th quickest time in P1. However the damage was too
extensive to repair at the track and the car was withdrawn. Andy
released an official statement, 'I was looking to post
another quick time when a fuel line rupture triggered a fire
inside the cockpit and engine area' The intensity of the fire
meant Andy was taken to the on-site medical centre but was later
released with just a minor burn to his face and some blisters!
“It’s really
disappointing not to be racing here being so quick in practice
on Friday,” said Andy. “Unfortunately the fire damaged the car
too much for the team to repair it and get it back out on track.
I was extremely lucky to walk away with only a few minor burns
and a couple of blisters really. I want to say a big thank you
to all the marshals and medical staff at the circuit as well as
the team and everybody who sent messages.
I’m absolutely fine
and will be looking forward to getting back in the car again
soon.”
