2013 Welsh Sports &
Saloon Car Championship
Round 4 Pembrey 30th
June 2013
Race 2, 15 Minutes + 1
Lap Rolling Start
In the break between
races there was lots of work for Endaf, Dave Coe, Dave Lawrence
and Jason Davies and their teams to do. Sadly, Jason would not
make the grid, after the M& S team (i.e Jason & his dad)
found that the turbo had blown up! Jason confirmed
‘There are lots of positives to take from today. I think we need
better tyres that can last until the end!’ His words were to
prove quite prophetic, as there were quite a few F1 drivers at
Silverstone who thought that about their Pirellis too!
Endaf hoped he had found his engine oil overflow problem
with the car he built for last weeks’ Mini Festival at
Brands Hatch, where he
won the race, first time out!
Meanwhile Mellissa’s
Moto-Mini was now back on 4 wheels and would start from the
back, as would the Riot Squad of Michael Cond & Dave Lawrence,
the Clio of Ken Self and 3 visiting drivers making it a splendid
24 car grid. However there was a short hiatus after the pace car
lap, after the BMW of visitor Andy Ewings had stopped, and had
to be towed in. Dave Coe was an early retirement, after a
session with the laptop and mobile phone in the gap between
races, had sadly failed to fix the Scoobys’ engine problem.

At the end of the 2nd
pace car lap, when the lights changed, Keith White passed Endaf
for the lead; which he was never to loose, in a lights to flag
victory. Endaf held 2nd place early on until Keith
Butcher and David Jones got by. Keith Butcher closed on Keiths’
BMW to finish almost 3 seconds behind, but Mr White had the
situation in hand and was always in command to complete a West
Country 1 -2! Dave Jones was 3rd! Endaf was 4th
but late in the race, he had Michael Cond hot on his tail, after
Mike had powered his way through the field. Mike made a
determined bid to overtake but Endaf held on to the place with
only a few tenths to spare as they crossed the finish line!
Neil
Watts settled into 6th place early on, after
initally begin as high as 3rd,
and quietly took charge of Class CS.
Neil was concerned after the first race, that he maybe wasn't getting the best out of his car or tyres, possibly
due to a lack of practice. He needn't have worried, his
finishing record and judicial use of his joker, has put him on
top of Class CS! His
main CS rival in this race, Andy
Williams was this races’ early spinner, re-appearing on lap one
in 15th place, but then began a fight back to finish
7th, after locking on to the Dave Lawrence/Jonathon
Vamplew battle and working his way past them.
Dave finished 8th (the last un-lapped runner
after a splendid run from the back) and
Jonathon was 9th, and now leads
Class BS, not withstanding his cars' apparent shortcomings! Will Moore was 10th
, after Glynne Jones retired
when a brake test put the BMW out!
Ken Self in his Renault Clio made up the retirements.
11th
was Craig Freeman at the head of the mini battle of the Minis,
after a close battle with Mike Edgell who finished 12th!
Both Mike and Craig are within a point of each other in Class
AS! Mellissa
was on the rise too and locked on to Mike Edgell for another
battle of the Minis.

In the end Mikes’ traditional version was
able to keep Mellissa space-frame special at bay; however her
efforts netted her the ‘Driver of the Race’ award. Chris
Morris again won his new class in his Suzuki Ignis and was 14th
ahead of Andy Long who was 15th,
but has quitely built
himself a lead in Class M, but dint of his record of
fiinishing every race so far!

Visitor Simon Sheridan was 16th ahead of Giles Beck
(BMW). Huw Morgan (Honda Civic) was 18th after a
battle with Roger Dowdens’ Locost who was 19th and
the final finisher.
So Keith White won the 2nd race
of the day for the 2nd time this season, and although
the weather wasn’t special, the racing was red hot at times, with
battles throughout the field, and with the biggest grids of the
day! Looking at the points stiuation there are
several nice battles brewing in the Classes.

the winners interveiw! photo

The next races are
on the 17/18th August on the VSCC meeting, and lets
hope we can prove to them that you don’t have to have cars built
in 190dot to have vintage racing!
