Seb Morris hopes for Oulton sucess and then plans Charity Round Wales Bike Ride

by Rob Allender & Marc Orme

Seb Morris, WRDA Young Driver of the Year award winner, is heading for Oulton Park for the latest rounds of the BRDC F4 championship this Saturday.  Oulton Park is the nearest circuit to his home town of Marford near Wrexham, so can be regarded as his home circuit. Seb, who is already a mulitple championship winner, is currently 3rd in the Championship, having scored well in the opening rounds to lead the points standings. Despite a disappointing weekend on the Indy Circuit at Brands Hatch, which included a DNF, he got back on track last time out at Snetterton with more podium visits. The 17 year old, whose car is run by Hillspeed, has stood on every step on the podium, except the top one, and that is something he is keen to rectify on the full Oulton Park circuit. With only 18 points cover the first 3 places, the scene is set! “It’s still wide open”, he commented, “We’ve got a lot of races left and although Jake Dalton and Charlie Robertson  are a bit ahead I’m hopeful we can cling on to them at Oulton, then we should be able to start attacking more when our testing schedule ramps up after next weekend. Our lack of testing compared to the others has held us back a bit, but we’re still in a decent position. Oulton is my favourite track, it’s a lot like Silverstone GP in that the driver can make a big difference and really get the most out of their package. Unless we hit problems in qualifying, and start further back than we’d like, then I’m sure we can have a strong weekend and take away plenty of points.”

However with Qualifying and all 3 races compressed into one day it will be a stiff test for both the drivers and the teams.  Hillspeed have already guided Morris to the first of his championship wins and if they can give him a competitive package, Seb knows how to do the business!  Ahead of this coming Saturday’s event, Seb has received a welcome boost in the form of a brand new sponsor – Warrington-based Cable Systems Ltd who are suppliers of specialist equipment to the Hazardous Area Industry and the Industrial Electrical Market.

Seb who is combining his racing with studies , also plans to leave almost straight after the races, for a 10 day charity bike ride around Wales with his father Phillip and his best friend Matt Groome . The trio hope to raise £700, i.e. £1 for each of the 700 miles they will be cycling around the circumference of Wales, with the money raised going to the Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity. Starting off in Wrexham and heading to Montgomery, Kilpeck, Caerleon, Burry Port, St.Davids. Aberaeron, Aberdovey, Nefyn, Cemaes Bay and back home; it promises to be a stiff challenge even for the ultra-fit Morris!
