Andy's Spa sorrows
WRDA member Andy Meyrick had a torrid time in the
2013 Total 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps on 7/28 July when the Gulf Racing
Uk McLaren 12C GT3 was hobbled by transmission problems, leaving Andy with a
tough climb through the pack before the car was forced to retire after
12hrs. Having missed the
1st lap
mayhem at Radillion, but with the race less than 1 hour old,
Meyrick’s team-mate & team co-owner Mike Wainwright brought the car into the
pits with gearbox issues. Once repaired, Meyrick started his first stint in
the 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 charger, but luck was not on his side when the
gearbox issue recurred, forcing him to return to the pits before his stint
was due to finish. Throughout the following stints from Stuart Hall
(GB) and Tim Mullen (GB), the car continued to run but with recurring
problems, which the team worked hard to resolve. After the sun had set,
Meyrick embarked upon a double stint during which, despite the difficult
conditions and double-stinted tyres, he climbed the car from 48th to 36th.
Andy next races in the American Le Mans Series for
DeltaWing Racing in the sixth round of the championship at Road
