WRDA member Andy
Meyrick, the Pro part of the
driving team & his team mate
Mike Winwright (the Am part)
finished just outside the
top ten in 11th place, in
the highly competitive GT
Pro-Am class at the third
round of the Blancpain
Watches Endurance Series at
Paul Ricard last Sunday 30
June, in the Gulf Racing UK
McLaren 12C GT3, after
starting in 20th place!
With a full grid of 60 cars,
getting a clean run was a
challenge in itself in
Saturday’s single qualifying
session but Andy recorded a
2:08.729 to position himself
and team-mate Mike
Wainwright 20th
on the Pro-Am grid. After
Mike started the race, Andy
took over and climbed the
Gulf Racing McLaren 12C GT3
through the pack, enabling
Mike to cross the finish
line in 11th
place. “Getting a clear run
in qualifying was a
challenge”, comments Andy.
“But that’s always the case
in BES because the grid is
so healthy. I’m pleased that
we managed to improve so
much on our qualifying
position during the race.
The McLarens struggled a
little at Silverstone, but
this weekend at Paul Ricard
the 12C GT3 was much better
suited to the track. We were
able to get much more out of
the car and the tyres, which
allowed both Mike and I to
put in some great laps.”
Andy next races this weekend
(5/6 July) at Lime Rock for
the fourth round of the
American Le Mans Series, the
Northeast Grand Prix, this
time in the DeltaWing Racing
machine. Qualifying takes
place at 1635hrs EDT on
Friday with the race
starting at 1505hrs EDT on
Saturday. Follow Andy’s 2013
