Andy targets America Le Mans Series for 2013
by Rebecca Jones
WRDA
member, Andy Meyrick, who is establishing himself as one of
the worlds most experienced and versatile sportscar drivers,
will miss the final round of the Blancpain Endurance Series
with Gulf Racing at the Nürburgring, to continue his
championship campaign with the DeltaWing Racing team in the
eighth round of the American Le Mans Series at the Circuit
of the Americas near Austin, Texas on 21 September.
Andy who is disappointed that the clash has forced him to
make a difficult decision commented: “Running two high
profile championship campaigns with two very strong teams
unfortunately means that there are sometimes clashes. It’s
very disappointing to miss the Nürburgring 1000km race. I
have good memories from the ‘Ring when I competed in the VLN
championship with Aston Martin on the full Nordschliefe
circuit in 2011. However, the DeltaWing Racing project is
progressing incredibly well and needs consistency in order
to continue its development trajectory – I’ve been there
from the start and its really exciting to see it progress,
especially with the new DeltaWing Coupe that has been
launched. Competing with Gulf Racing in the McLaren 12C GT3
has been incredible – it is a new team that is punching well
above its weight and the car has been a pleasure to drive.
The Blancpain Endurance Series is a fantastic series to race
in and I hope to be back racing in it again next year. It’s
a shame to cut it short so close to the end of the season
but I wish the team the best of luck for the race.”
