3 pole positions, a Fastest Lap and a win for young Welsh Wizard Morris on his senior race debut. by Robert Allender & Marion Dix
WRDA mmber
and top teenage racing driver, Seb Morris, from Wrexham, grabbed the headlines with
a sensational Protyre Formula Renault BARC Championship debut over the weekend, at
Snetterton 200 Circuit near
Absolutely destroying the opposition in a rain-affected qualifying sessions on Saturday morning to lock-out pole position for each of the weekends three races, the 16-year-old Welshman stunned more experienced rivals with his high level of performance. In particular, an outstanding lights-to-flag victory in Sunday mornings 2nd round belied the fact it was his first race weekend in single-seaters. Added to changeable conditions over the two days, it really was a memorable debut and he ended the weekend a superb second in the championship standings.
Senna Straight! Sebs first win has Senna Style!
Morris said With all the hard work and preparation weve done, I really wanted to take my first win this weekend but to have actually done it is fantastic! There are so many people I need to thank but especially the team, my family and my fantastic sponsors.
In qualifying, he was untouchable. In a series where margins are usually as small as a one tenth of a second, Morris took his maiden pole position by a massive 0.8 second!. He then repeated that by also taking pole position for rounds two & three by almost the same margin!
The track for race two on Sunday morning was completely dry, and Morris was in a league of his own as he scorched to an unchallenged 7.3 second victory, despite having an early lead wiped out during a 5 lap Safety Car period. But Morris was un-fazed by this and made a faultless re-start . He then reeled off a series of fastest laps including the fastest lap of the race, to take his maiden win with ease, scoring the maximum points available.
For the 3rd and final race of the weekend conditions changed again, with a wet track. Unfortunately for Seb, he stalled on the grid losing his pole position, dropping as low as tenth place before staging a tremendous recovery to take 5th at the finish despite another moment and a mis-handling car after damaging the front wing endplate.
Summing up Morris confirmed Its been a fantastic first weekend in Formula Renault BARC, Fortec put together a great car and its a great championship to be in. I am learning so much. I am disappointed we werent on the podium in all three races, as we should have been, but its still been a great start to my single-seater career
Podium Joy! 3 pole positions, a Fastest Lap and a win - WOW!
