Morris gets set for a testing weekend at Rockingham

Teenage Welsh racer Seb Morris is looking forward to the fourth and fifth rounds of the Protyre Formula Renault BARC Championship at Rockingham near Corby, next weekend, 19th/20th May, and he will be aiming to build on a sensational debut in senior racing at Snetterton in Norfolk over Easter weekend.

Although it was his first competitive race in a new car, with a new team and in testing conditions; Morris took pole position for each that weekends 3 races and went on to take his first win!

However but far a few understandable mistakes, given his inexperience with the car in race trim and the testing driving conditions, he could have conceivably have won all three races! Even so he left East Anglia in 2nd place in the championship, but the modest Morris is the first to acknowledge the depth of talent in Protyre Formula Renault BARC this year and also the tough challenge he’ll face at Rockingham.

“We had a lot of firsts at Snetterton but it didn’t all go according to plan though, but our expectations are high for Rockingham and we’ll try and do our best.   I’m comfortable with the car now so whatever the weather throws at us we should be fast. I know the races will be hard, there’s some really tough competition, but I’m sure we’ll be quick. We’ve been strong each time we’ve tested at Rockingham so there’s no reason we shouldn’t be again next weekend.”

In addition to his race preparations the 16 year old has also been studying hard for his GCSE exams which have just begun. “I’ve been putting a lot of focus on school over the last few weeks, we’ve had a couple of runs in the car but it’s been mainly about preparing for my exams but when I’m back in the car at Rockingham, all of my focus will be on the track and trying to win.”
