Andy Meyrick Signs with Gulf Racing For 2013 Blancpain Endurance Series  by Emma Buxton & Robert Allender

Top Welsh racer and WRDA member Andy Meyrick has joined the Gulf Racing UK team for the 2013 Blancpain Endurance Series. Sponsored by Swiss luxury watchmaker Blancpain, (the oldest watchmaker in the world) the series is made up of a series of sprint races (including one at Silverstone on June 2nd) but centered around the Total Oils Spa-Francorchamps 24hr race, at the iconic and challenging circuit in the Ardennes region of Belgium. Andy, originally from Swansea, but now living in Cheshire, will be racing a McLaren MP4-12C GT3 in Gulf Oil International’s iconic racing colours in the Pro-Am category alongside team co-owner & Swiss-based British driver, Mike Wainwright. Gulf Racing UK will be entering two McLaren cars; with the other one in the Pro category where the drivers will be double Le Mans Series GT Champion Rob Bell, fellow McLaren GT factory driver Adam Carroll and Belgian racer Nico Verdonck. When not racing himself Andy will be fully occupied with his role MSA Team UK coaching role and acting as a mentor to fellow Welsh racer Seb Morris.

Andy first drove for Gulf Racing UK at the iconic Total Oils Belgian 24-hour event last year, where six hours of heavy rain and treacherous track conditions proved it to be one of the most challenging races of the season.  In a race where cars were pushing bow-waves more commonly seen in power boating, and cars were crashing even while on the straights, Meyrick and Rob Bell had worked the car up into the top 20, only for the car to crash out after team co-owner Mike Wainwright drifted wide onto the Astoturf track edge!

“I really am delighted to be joining Gulf Racing UK for 2013,” said Meyrick. “I drove for the team in the Spa 24 Hours last year and am looking forward to competing with them for a complete season. The Blancpain series is the most competitive GT championship in Europe, with an extremely strong grid. I am also excited to be working closely with McLaren, who I hear have made some revisions to the car over the winter, and with my Gulf Racing UK team mates Mike, Rob, Adam and Nico.”
