No Joy for Andy at Knockhill!
Andy indluges in some kerb hopping at Knockhill - it's
the only way!
WRDA member Andy Meyrick came back empty
handed from his visit to our Celtic cousins in Scotland, in his
second Porsche Carrera Cup GB outing, and on his debut at the
Scottish track, Andy endured a challenging weekend.
Driving the
Lindberg, Team Parker Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car, Andy got
caught out by the weather in qualifying after a heavy rain
shower effectively cut the session short just after the halfway
point and could only manage in seventh place on the grid for the
weekend’s two races.
In the first race Andy settled into a safe
6th place, until a safety car bunched the field up. After
getting a good drive off Taylors corner at the restart, Andy
then went deep into the notorious Duffus Dip on the inside line.
Briefly there were 3 cars wide across the track but local hero
and Knockhill racing instructor, Rory Butcher cut viciously
across from the wide outside and ran into the nose of Meyricks
car which unfortunately caught the rear of Butcher which span
both cars off the track. Andy was able to continue and crossed
the finish line in sixth place, but Butcher speared across the
track and into another accident with another car.

Later Andy was, perhaps unfairly, found by
the Stewards of the Meeting to have been responsible for the
incident and was excluded from the results of Race One.
Determined to put Race One firmly behind
him, Andy was looking forward to the second of the weekend’s
32-laps of fast action and had made a good start. He was up to
fourth place by the third turn on the first lap when contact was
made by another competitor which speared Andy off the track and
into the guard rails. Game over.
“It’s been a while since I had such a bad
weekend,” reflected Andy, “but you’ve got to take the rough with
the smooth in racing. There was obviously no intention to make
any contact with anyone at the restart in race one, it was a
genuine mistake so I feel a bit aggrieved with the exclusion as
I feel that was a very harsh penalty. I’ve got to put all that
behind me now and I know what I’ve got to do to make it right.
Our next race is at Rockingham in Northamptonshire which is a
circuit I know well and like so I’ll be planning on bouncing
back and chalking up some more points.”
The next round of the Porsche Carrera Cup
will be at Rockingham Motor Speedway in Northamptonshire on 22nd/23rd
September.
