Hywel scores well at Monza
Hywel slices through to 7th place WRDA member Hywel Lloyd, from Corwen, got off to a flying start when the 2011 Cooper Tires British Formula 3 International Series visited the Monza circuit in Italy for the first 3 races in the 2011 series. Driving a Dallara car with a Mercedes engine for the Sino Vision Racing team, Lloyd put in a storming performance in the first race to pull up from a 16th on the grid to finish in 7th place and score 4 vital points. With the top 8 finishers drawing lots for the starting positions for race 2, Lloyd was looking for a big boost, but he was unlucky enough to draw the 7th place starting position, which he duly converted to another 7th place to double his score to 8 points. However his luck was definitely out in the final race of the day as he found himself boxed in at the start. The guy in front moved but then stalled and I was lucky not to hit him. By the time I was able to get going, the rest had gone even so Lloyd pulled himself up to finish 15th at the finish. The points scored so far put Lloyd in 10th place in the title standings and with up to 52 points available at each round, the positions can change rapidly. Hywel remains confident of a good result in the next round of the series at Oulton Park, his local track, with qualifying and race 1 on Saturday and races 2 & 3 on Bank Holiday Monday. British Formula 3 enjoys the headlining support of Cooper Tires and is additionally backed by Sunoco Racing Fuels, Anglo American Oil Company and OAMPS.
