WRDA member Hywel Lloyd from Corwen  is getting ready to head to China for the final Formula 3 race of the season, the prestigious Macau Grand Prix. The race on the streets of the former Portuguese colony, near Hong Kong, was first held in 1954, but the first winner in the modern F3 era was Ayrton Senna in 1983. Since then it has attracted a host of top drivers, with the winners including Michael Schumacher and David Coulthard.

It is also the home race for the Sino Vision Racing team for whom Lloyd & Chinese driver Adele Fong are the drivers and the entry list features many national Formula 3 champions and drivers around the world. Due to the challenging nature of the circuit, which consists of fast straights and tight corners and uncompromising crash barriers, circuit is known as one of the most demanding circuits in the world.

Last year Lloyd was running well until a brush with the barrier at the end of the 160 mph main straight put paid to his chances. However his spirited drive won him a place in the new Sino Vision Racing team for the 2011 British F3 season. During the year Lloyd has helped build the team and helped his team-mate Fong in his first year of racing. Although at times Lloyd & the team have looked like making a breakthrough, podium places have been just out of reach, although he has had the leaders in sight on many occasions.

Plans for 2012 will be worked on following the Macau race.
