MEYRICK PLANS TO MASTER THE LONDON MARATHON IN APRIL

WRDA member Andy Meyrick has been selected to be part of the 10-strong Racing
Drivers team running in the 2011 Virgin London Marathon on 17th April for Cystic Fibrosis. Andy who is 25 years old, is one of Britain’s brightest new sports prototype racing stars, and has already started to fit marathon training into his preparations for the 2011 season. His full racing programme will be announced soon.

A keen runner for many years, Meyrick was persuaded to take part by Oliver Gavin of the BRDC, who spearheaded the Club’s 2010 assault on the famous event which raised £100,000 for the CLIC Sargent children’s cancer charity, and he said 'The marathon will be a real challenge. Training is going well, very hard but its for a great cause !!

“Olly and BRDC Club Secretary, Stuart Pringle, both had me earmarked for this several months ago,” said Andy, “and there’s been some pretty strong competition for places on the team...much as you’d expect from a competitive group of racing drivers...so I’m really pleased to be picked.

“Last year the guys did a brilliant job on the fund-raising and there were some very impressive times run as well with the best being Olly’s 2:54.20. That’s got to be my target hasn’t it? This will be my first time doing a full marathon, although I’ve run several half-marathons, and the London is such a massive and prestigious event. I can’t wait to get in amongst the massive entry and get going but there’s a small matter of training first.”

Andy has also been reading up on Cystic Fibrosis (CF) through the CF Trust’s website (www.cftrust.org.uk). “I never realised that it’s one of the UK's most common life-threatening inherited diseases. We are a young group of drivers, all hopefully – at the peak of fitness and enjoying great racing, but there are two young lives lost to CF every week and those people have probably never enjoyed being at peak fitness. Hopefully our marathon entry will not only raise valuable funds for research but also raise awareness for what the CF Trust is doing to help people with this disease.”
