WRDA member Andy Meyrick has been selected to be part of Aston Martin Racing’s 2011 driver line up, it was announced today. The 25-year-old originally from Swansea but now living in Cheshire, is one of Britain’s brightest new sports car stars, will be racing the all-new AMR-One LMP1 open cockpit prototype at a number of international sports car events including the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June.

Meyrick made his debut with the renowned British team in the final round of the 2010 Le Mans Series at Silverstone, and impressed the team enough to have been retained for a fuller programme in 2011. Aston Martin Racing, which will once again bear the iconic blue and orange Gulf Oil livery, will be competing in the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup, and Meyrick will be sharing the cockpit of 009 with the highly experienced Adrian Fernandez of Mexico and Harold Primat of Switzerland.

George Howard-Chappell, Team Principal for Aston Martin Racing, comments: “Andy did a very proficient job for us at Silverstone last September, driving with Adrian and Harold, and not only did everything that was asked of him but also showed a good turn of speed and fitted in very well with the whole team. I’m delighted he’ll be back with us again, and we’re looking forward to a successful season together with AMR-One.”

Speaking earlier today Andy was obviously thrilled that his 2011 plans could finally be publicised: “I’m really excited about re-joining Aston Martin Racing and having the opportunity to compete in the AMR-One. To be in at the birth of a new era of Aston Martin’s racing heritage is a special honour and I plan to show that David Richards’ and George’s faith in me will be rewarded.”  (Photo by Rob Allender)
