WRDA member Hywel Lloyd got on the score sheet at Magny Cours after a series of mega drives from lowly grid positions.

Welsh racing driver Hywel Lloyd got on the score sheet at Magny Cours after a series of superb drives from lowly grid positions.

Lloyd, driving the CF Racing with Manor Motorsport Dallara with a Mercedes engine, had a disappointing practice, qualifying down in 14th place for race 1, but a sparkling drive say him climb up to 6th place and into a potential strong place for race 2, until an uncharacteristic spin on the penultimate lap, dropped him back down to 14th again. In race 2 Hywel showed his determination again attacking the course and worked his way up to 5th place, scoring his first points of the season.

In race 3 Hywel was again on the move and carved his way up from15th to 8th to take another welcome haul of points, leapfrogging several of his old rivals in the process. Next weekend the circus moves to Zandvoort in Holland for the non championship F3 Masters race, when the top drivers from across Europe gather for a one race showdown. Lloyd speaking on the eve of the race said "It was a big relief to finally get on the score sheet at Magny Cours. We just cant seem to get enough grip from the rear in qualifying, which makes it difficult to get a good grid position,. However we hope to do better at Zandvoort as everyone has to run the race on Kuhmo tyres. Manor Motorsport have lots of experience of getting the best from these tyres, so hopefully that will help us."

The 2010 Cooper Tires British Formula 3 Championship restarts on the 17th July at Rockinham near Corby, the series goes Continental again for a weekends racing at Spa Francorchamps in Belgium at the end of July, before returning to British tracks for the final races in the season.

The 2010 Cooper Tires British F3 Championship is sponsored by US tyre manufacturer Cooper Tires and is further supported by Sunoco Racing Fuels, Anglo American Oil Company and Mirror.co.uk

The format of races in the 2010 Cooper Tires British Formula 3 Championship is one Qualifying session and three races per weekend. Day one will have one 30 minute race while day two will see a 20 minute sprint and a 40 minute feature race

In the 30 minute qualifying session a drivers’ second-fastest lap time will give their grid positions for race one. The winner of that race will then draw a number between six and 10. If they pick seven, they start seventh, with the second-placed driver sixth and the seventh-placed driver on pole position for the sprint race. This is designed to give drivers all the way down the grid something to fight for in race one. Grid positions for the final race are determined by drivers’ fastest lap in qualifying.

Points are scored for the Top 10 places in each class (20-15-12-10-8-6-4-3-2-1) with a bonus point for the fastest lap in each class. The 20 minute sprint race will score half points, with two bonus points for the fastest laps.

The Mirror.co.uk British F3 Challenge Cup will once again be awarded to the top British driver
