Whale & Dolphin Watching Boat Trips

WRDA members Hywel Lloyd & Alex Jones both scored points in the latest races of their championships at Rockingham, but were also both denied more success by some bad luck.

In the Cooper Tires British F3 International Series, Lloyd driving the CF Racing Dallara Mugen Honda benefited from the latest new Neil Brown engine to qualify in 12th place for both of the weekends races, and quickly moved up to 5th place in race 1, but he had to retire after a late race clash saw his car too badly damaged to continue.

"I had a good run on Walter Grubbmuller the Austrian driver who was in 4th place and went for the inside line in the next corner but he started to squeeze me. There was contact and my car was too damaged to continue" In fact Lloyd’s car briefly went airborne after hitting the inside kerb and vaulted Grubbmuller to end up on the outside of the track with the car beached.

However with his car rapidly repaired for race 2 Hywel was making the same sort of progress until he dropped back after a half spin. "I was pushing on but ran wide and got on the dirty stuff. I managed to hold it but I lost a lot of places". Hywel finished in 9th place to at least end the weekend with some more points, after a much improved performance. "It was very encouraging. It looks like the pace is there with the new engine, and I thought at one stage that I might be able to get a podium place"

There was no time to reflect on the weekends highlights before leaving for the trip to the next round at Hockenheim in Germany next weekend. "This is our first time there and I’m looking forward to it. Qualifying is limited with only two 30 minute sessions on Saturday so it will be important to get a good set up in Friday testing" Hywel is currently in 15th place in the Championship with 5 points.

The Championship is currently lead by Australian driver Daniel Ricciardo

In the MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain, Jones driving a Spectrum, qualified in 8th place and after one of his best starts of the year was up to 5th place when he was given a drive through penalty. This seemed to cruel luck as it seemed that it was a case of mistaken identity, but Alex worked hard to overcome the penalty and finished in 12th to at least salvage some points from the weekend.

The points scored puts Andy into 7th place in the championship. The next race in the season is at the Algarve Motorpark on August 2nd.
