Alex Jones takes 3rd Place at Donington Park
WRDA member Alex Jones scored his best result of the year in the MSA Formula Ford Championship of Britain race at Donington Park recently. Driving a Spectrum car, run by the Kevin Mills Team, Alex, who started from fifth on the grid, got an unexpected bonus when two of the cars in front of him collided and crashed out on the warm up lap! This enabled Alex to quickly move up into third place off the start line. With rapid pace he was soon making a bid for second place. An exciting duel ensued with Alex making a decisive and successful move on lap 3, but later lost the place to Joseph Newgarden who managed to dive past into second. Alex & Joe raced on, and managed to get clear away from the rest of the field, Alex going on to achieve his first podium of the season in third place (the first for a Welshman for a long, long time). With his Australian team mate Daniel Erickson winning the race and Daniel Cammish taking 4th place and the Scholarship Class, this was a great result for Kevin Mills with Spectrum drivers in 1st, 3rd & 4th places.
A long time coming- Alex grabs some hard won rewards!
"It's been a long time coming," said Alex. "I'm really happy for the Team. Its been a fantastic day for Kevin Mills Racing."
Kevin Mills was delighted with the results delivered by his young drivers, describing it as "Mega. We have been promising this for quite a while and it is terrific to deliver." Mike Borland designer of the Spectrum cars summed up the result. " It was fantastic to see Alex and the two Dans crowd the podium in their KMR Spectrums. Congratulations to Kevin, his Team and the Drivers on a well earned result."
