Andy stars at the Nurburgring
Wrda member Andy Meyrick, helped steer the Kolles team to an excellent 4th place in the latest round of the 2009 Le Mans sportscar series, the 1000 Kilometres of the Nurburgring. Andy who started the privately run diesel powered Audi R10 car in 7th place, got the car as high as 2nd place before handing over to his team-mates! Dutchman Charles Zwolsman and Indian driver Narain Karthikeyan, brought the car home in 4th place, the teams best performance of the year, after 6 hours hard racing.
Afterwards Andy said "It was a good race, although it was disappointing to finish 4th, as it looked like we could be on for a podium finish! You need to look after your tyres at the Nurburgring, and unfortunately Narian found his tyres graining badly, and the team had to do another stop to change tyres, which I am sure cost us 3rd place. Still the final round is at Silverstone and I am looking forward to that as it should suit our car more. It will be tough though as we will be up against 3 works supported Lola Aston Martins, as well as the French Oreca & Pescarolo teams who will all be flat out to win. Also there is a added interest of having Nigel Mansel return to the track."
The points scored at the Nurburgring puts Meyrick into 9th place in the championship, but with only a few points covering the next 6 drivers anything could happen in the final race of the season at Silverstone for the Autosport 1000 Kilometre race in September. With practice on Friday 11th, qualifying on Saturday 12th and the race itself on Sunday 13th it will be a big weekend for one of Wales best new drivers.
