Whale & Dolphin Watching Boat Trips

Wrda member Alex Jones looks to step up to F3 after some encouraging tests with T-Sport & Team West-Tec, and hopefully will make it, to be the 3rd of the new young Welsh drivers to carry the Welsh Dragon into F3 in the 21st Century.

T-sport give Alex his first test in an F3 car at Silverstone in November

Alex made the step up from the British Formula Ford Championship to Formula 3 with his maiden Formula 3 tests at the historic Silverstone circuit with the T-Sport Formula 3 team. His initial Formula 3 test was a day of many firsts for Alex. “For the first two sessions I was finding my way around thetrack as it was my first visit to the GP circuit, the weather was windy and overcast with the track damp in places. This didn’t help getting comfortable with the car or getting used to the down force and physical aspect of driving a Formula 3 car, but by the third session I was setting competitive lap times which was great. For the last session I was all set to run on new tyres but we unfortunately had a technical problem which meant we couldn’t do anymore running for the day but I thoroughly enjoyed both driving the car and working with the T-Sport team and I am looking forward to getting behind the wheel again. I was able to gel quickly with the team and car and managed to put in some very competitive times for my first outing. The performance of the car was very impressive and it was a fantastic experience".

The second of Alex’s Formula 3 tests days took place on Friday 20th, again at Silverstone but on the National circuit: "I was really pleased to be able to continue my relationship with T-Sport with a second test at Silverstone. Having a second day was really important for my learning experience and increasing understanding of the limits of the Formula 3 car. The day started out wet, another new experience in Formula 3, but the track dried towards the end of the day and we were able to get dry running for the last session.

”I was able to feel comfortable in wet, greasy, and dry conditions, and take the car and my performance to a higher level than the first test. It was pleasing to see the progress culminating in some very impressive lap times and encouraging feedback from the data and team."
Russell Eacott, Team Manager of T-Sport: “We are very surprised by Alex’s first performances in the Formula 3 car. I think he has a big future ahead of him in Formula 3 and motorsport. He acclimatised very well to the car in far from ideal weather conditions, he gave good technical feedback and he showed great ability and discipline in working with the team at this level. We very much hope we can work with him in the future.”

Alex Jones: “I look forward to having more seat time in the near future to gain more experience in Formula 3. We are currently working with potential sponsors and partners for a season in British Formula 3 National Class next season, 2010.”

In December Alex got another great opportunity to test a F3 car this time with a different team, Team West-Tec, and at a different circuit, Snetterton`

Despite the very cold and wet weather Alex improved his times steadily throughout the day completing more laps than expected. “I was impressed with the Team and pleased with my performance, making more progress in the transition from Formula Ford to Formula 3.” Alex reported at the end of the day. “I am just looking forward now to finalising our plans so that we can get underway in earnest when testing starts again in February 2010”. Look out for more news in 2010
