Rhys Lloyd is given the 2008 WRDA Welsh Young
Driver of the Year Award
Carmarthens Rhys Lloyd was presented with the prestigious WRDA Welsh Young Driver of
the Year Award at the glittering WRDA Award Night at the Copthorne
Hotel in Cardiff on Saturday. Lloyd was given the trophy by WRDA Chairman Mike Woods, who
said "Once again there were a lot of talented young drivers in
contention, but Rhys had an almost perfect season in 2008 by decisively winning not only
the Welsh Sports & Saloon Car Championship but also the LMA Euro
Saloon Championship as well. He has matured into one of the top young saloon car drivers
in British racing, and the club was pleased to be able to acknowledge his
achievements." Rhys himself said "I am thrilled to receive this award, it's a
fabulous trophy to be given. I will be looking to defend my championships in 2009"
Last year
the award was given to Hywel Lloyd, who said" It was something I feel very proud of.
It was a nice achievement and it was nice to have the support of the Welsh Racing Drivers
Association. It helped me a lot and I hoped I show their support was justified" Hywel
went on to finish 3rd in the National Class in the 2008 British Formula 3
Championship after winning 2 races and putting in a string of strong drives.
This years nominations, as well as Hywel Lloyd, based on their performances in
2008 were
