WRDA racers Andy Meyrick and Hywel Lloyd receive another boost

Welsh racers Andy Meyrick and Hywel Lloyd received another boost with the news that The British F3 International Series has announced a media partnership with The Daily Mirror. The newspaper will launch The Mirror.co.uk British F3 Challenge, which is an initiative to support Britain's upcoming generation of motor racing talent.

The Mirror will present 'The Mirror.co.uk British F3 Challenge Cup' to the leading British driver in the 2008 British F3 International Series at the end of the season. The British F3 Championship has been won by some of the greatest names in motorsport including Ayrton Senna, Sir Jackie Stewart, Emerson Fittipaldi, Mika Hakkinen and Nelson Piquet, and at the beginning of this season's F1 Championship there were eight drivers on the grid who honed their skills and graduated from British F3 whilst a further four are full time F1 test drivers.

"As promoter of British F3 we are thrilled to have such an iconic British media brand partnering with The Series." says Alistair Spence, Marketing Manager, SRO Motorsports Group, promoter of British F3. "Having the support of The Mirror will give our British driver stars of tomorrow a unique opportunity to publicise themselves to UK and international public."

Steve Anglesey, Editor of Mirror.co.uk, adds. "The Daily Mirror has a big heritage in motor sport and this agreement fits perfectly with our aim of supporting young British talent across a wide spectrum of disciplines. When you see all the hard work dedication and skill that these young drivers put into their sport, you realise to make it as far as F3 is a huge achievement. We want to recognise that and then see the best of the best push on towards F1."

As well as coverage in the newspaper, British F3 will get significant additional coverage on the paper's website, which will create a dedicated British F3 micro site

Points will be allocated to the top eight drivers from the UK with 10 points for the first British driver past the chequered flag, 8 points for the second, 6 for third down to 1 point for the eighth British driver. There are extra points for setting the fastest laps in each class and National Class drivers can also gain an extra point for each place they finish inside the top 10 overall.

The points from the first 10 races of the 22 race series have been allocated and Oliver Turvey is the current leader, 23 points ahead of Max Chilton and 37 ahead of Andy Meyrick.
