Brands disappointments for Andy & Hywel
There was little joy for Welsh F3 Racers Andy Meyrick and Hywel Lloyd at Brands Hatch this weekend. Andy unfortunately missed the whole meeting after being admitted to hospital for tests after feeling the effects of a mystery illness in the middle of the week. A dodgy set of tyres left Hywel also ruing a missed opportunity after a promising start to the weekend. "We were really quick on Friday in testing but we went slower in the first qualifying session on Saturday, and really couldnt find out why, I was well off the pace, the second session was better but I went off through Sheene corner and damaged the floor, so that was that." Starting Race 1 from 25th place, Hywel made some progress at the start and settled into a steady drive finishing in front of fellow National Class racers Jordan Williams and Kristian Einar. Jay Bridger won the class in the absence of Andy Meyrick. Steven Guerrero and Stefan Wilson also profited, and closed on Hywel in the points standing. However changing tyres before race 2 proved a turning point with Hywel more able to match times with the class leaders, "We had changed the settings but the real improvement was with the tyres. You cant overtake at Brands but I set the 2nd fastest lap of the race; Avon have taken the first set of tyres away to analyse them but that wont help now, so it was a bit of a wasted weekend" Steven Guerrero won the National Class and with Jay Bridger & Stefan Wilson also scoring well, Hywel has dropped back to 4th in the title standings, whilst Andy Meyrick has dropped to second place. The next rounds in the Championship is at Spa Francochamps in Belgium in 3 weeks time. Hywel commented "I am looking forward to going there." It is to be hoped that Andy recovers in time to be competitive. We have sent him a get well card on behalf of the club, but his address should you also wish to send him a card is, Andy Meyrick, The Grange, Abbey Lane, Delamere, Cheshire, CW8 2HW
