Alex Jones British Duratec Formula Ford campaign
British Duratech Formula Ford Championship Scholarship Class final races-
Donington Park 11/12 October
WRDA member Alex Jones finished the final rounds of the rookie season with 3 pole positions, 2 fastest laps, and race win at the challenging Donington Park National circuit. Alex, driving a Spectrum, was 11th fastest in practice, well ahead of the next Scholarship runner. However the weather played a part in race 1 as it started to rain halfway through which meant a problem for Alex, who had gambled with a dry set-up, and he had to settle for 2nd place. In race 2 on Sunday morning Alex was back on full form, after the team had set the car up to perfection to cope with a slowly drying track; winning his class, almost 20 seconds ahead of his nearest class rival and finishing 8th overall. Alex looked set for a repeat in race 3 after a storming start, latching on to the heels of the main Championship runners with a substantial lead over the next Scholarship class runners . However, Alexs family & friends had to endure a nail-biting race as his exhaust went not long into the race and then cruelly gave out 2 laps before the end, robbing Alex of another excellent win, although he had the consolation of setting the fastest lap in his class. However Alex confirmed his pleasing progress since joining the Kevin Mills team and is looking forward to 2009, having taken 6 wins, 13 poles and 9 fastest laps in 2008. A film crew (or was is it a crew filmio) from S4C spent the day with Alex and the Kevin Mills team during the pre-race testing and the feature should be shown in April/May 2009 hopefully we will have advance notice of the date & time.
