Singletons' car lifts a wheel as tries hard to make up places

Single seat racer Richard Singleton endured a tough weekend at the Croft circuit near Darlington, in the latest rounds of the Formula Renault UK Championship, scoring well in race 1; but then having to battle his way up from a poor grid position into the points in race 2, after getting caught out by the bizarre qualification procedure. Richard explained "There was only one practice session and the starting positions for the second race was decided by taking your second fastest practice lap. Unfortunately I couldn’t find 2 clear laps and I was blocked on my quickest lap too!" Richard finished 6th in race one after starting in 7th place, but had a real battle in race 2 after starting in 12th place. "I had to be patient early on because Croft is a difficult place to pass, and I was quicker than the other cars in one part and not so quick in others." The strategy worked with the flying Singleton working his way up to 8th place by the end, and in sight of the 7th place man. The next race in the series, which seems to following the BARC Renault UK Championship around the country, is at Oulton Park on 23/24 June. Oulton Park is a happy hunting ground for Richard after he won his first race in the BARC series last year, so he will be hoping for some better fortune at his home circuit.
