Singleton scores at Brands
The 2007 Formula Renault with Michelin Championship, started on the weekend with two
races at Brand Hatch in Kent, and Llanfairfechan racer Richard Singleton had to draw on
all his resources to score a pleasing set of results from a weekend that started poorly
after changes to the aerodynamics of the cars was forced on the teams by the organisers,
after a string of front wing failures on the tight twisty Brands Hatch Indy circuit. Some
timely input from Richard started to turn things around after the first practice session
and in the first race Richard pulled up from 11th on the grid to finish 8th and in the
second race finished in a storming 5th place to rack up some useful points at this early
stage in the season. Perhaps more importantly than the points was the fact that he was
fastest of all the Manor teams cars and also faster than Jordan Oakes, his sparring
partner from last season. "Ive got to beat him", Richard said afterwards.
"The results were good in the end, considering we started on the back foot. I had a
good start in race one but then got stacked up behind one of the Fortec team cars who was
slowing a bunch of us up. I had to try to attack and defend at the same time because if I
made the wrong move all the others would have got by me. In practice for the second race
we made some changes to the car and I was 6th fastest and after a good start slotted into
5th place. I am now 6th in the championship which isnt too bad when you consider
where we were at the start of the weekend " Race 1 was won by Jeremy Metcalfe of the
AKA Cobra team and Race 2 by Duncan Tappy of Fortec.
The next race in the Championship Calendar is on 21st/22nd April at Rockingham Motor
Speedway near Corby in Northamptonshire
