Lloyd truimphs at Thuxton to narrow points gap! Lap 1 exiting the chicane - Hwyel leads and no one can catch him WRDA racer Hwyel Lloyd from Corwen powered to a dominant win in the penultimate round of the 2007 BARC Formula Renault Championship at Thruxton on Sunday 16th September to narrow the points gap at the top of the championship and set up an exciting end to the season. Going into the race 13 points behind points leader Dean Stoneman, Hwyel, driving the CF Racing entry, was 2nd fastest in practice, but was never headed after sweeping into the lead halfway round the first lap. "As soon as I got into the lead I put my head down and tried to build a gap. However Thruxton is a high speed track and it can be very hard on the tyres so although I did try to get the extra point for fastest lap, it was really important to save the tyres and bring it home" At the end Hwyel was over 2 seconds clear of the pack, and with points leader Dean Stoneman trailing in 4th place, Lloyd has now closed the points gap to only 6 points between himself and Stoneman, his only rival for the championship, with one race to go. Accepting his award from fellow WRDA member Alan Jenkins, Hwyel commented" Yes it was a really good weekend. Im now looking forward to Oulton Park. This will make it doubling interesting!" Certainly with wins in the last two rounds the momentum is now with Hwyel. The final race is at Oulton Park on 29th Sept.
