Singleton maintains his lead in the 2006 Formula Renault Championship Richard Singleton from Conway maintained his points lead in the 2006 BARC Formula Renault championship, after finishing second in the 10th of the 12 races series at the high speed Thruxton circuit on Saturday. Singleton was 4th in practice and after a race full of incidents and accidents, found himself in 2nd place in the closing laps behind his main championship rival Jordan Oakes. Coming up to the chicane on the final lap Singelton and Oakes were side but side "I could have tried to outbrake him for the lead but I knew I had nothing to gain and a lot to loose if it went wrong, so I slipped into second place." The final races in the championship are at Brands Hatch next Saturday & Sunday and having saved a fresh set of tyres for both races, Singleton was feeling relaxed and confident "I feel quite comfortable and I dont feel under pressure. I know Ive got 2 sets of new tyres for the weekend and we had a good test at Brands Hatch last week so I feel I can finish the championship on top" Singleton was also backed up by his RS team-mate Hywel Lloyd from Corwen, who finished the 12 lap race in 6th place. The final races in the 12 race series are at Brands Hatch on Saturday 23 & Sunday 24th September. |
