Round 7 2005 Welsh Championship. Sunday 12th June. Entry & Practice Overnight paddock chat centred on a 2 page spread in Motoring News on Welsh leg-end Alvin Powell and also the HTV cameras taking footage of Adrian Chapman after filming the electric Kart Challenge, for possible showing in October. Its all good for the championship. Jeff Davies didnt make it out, and neither did the sun very much, but Dave Krayem took pole again albeit at a slightly less blistering pace than Saturday of 56.521 secs. Peter Williams however was really on it and was less than 4/10ths behind with 56.908. Clive, Richard & Huw were next, with Andy Williams in 6th as the fastest saloon well clear of Lee David, who had Matthew Perkins less than 5/100ths behind! Ken Rattenbury, Stephen Pearcy and Douglas Bowkett were also just as close in 9th to 11th place. Anthony Allitt, Chris Davies and Adrian Chapman were equally spaced in 12th to 15th, Adrian continuing to make progress with his lap times. The race .. 15 mins + 1 lap. Rolling Start This time when the grid came around for the lights, Dave was making no mistakes and with a distinct lack of Stealth the V8 B6 was in the lead but this time it was Clive Hayes taking up the cudgels from Peter Williams in 3rd with Huw Williams 4th, and Richard Rhozon 5th making it Radicals 2 to 5; then a big gap opening up before Andrew and his Sierra in 6th with Stephen Pearcy, from Ken Rattenbury, Richard Hill (or was it David this time?), and Matthew Perkins. Lee David was dropping back but had Douglas Bowkett, Anthony Allitt, and Adrian Chapman behind him in the early stages but Chris Davies didnt seem to make it out. Positions remained static for the first few laps but then it was battle joined between Clive and Peter for 2nd place. Between laps 5 and 10 Peter made several efforts to get by, overtaking at Hatchets before running wide and letting Clive get past, also running side by side, before eventually making it through. Many drivers were finding it slippery, and several were in difficulties with a lack of grip. Matthew Perkins found his front tyres going away but not before he set the class fastest lap! Andrew Williams also found a quick lap half way through the race to seal his class win and 6th place. At the front Peter Williams also found something, and really got his head down and began to chase Dave for all he was worth. As the race neared its conclusion, Dave responded with some quick laps, but Peter was even quicker, setting the fastest lap of the race on the penultimate tour to close to within 2.5 seconds at the end! Clive dropped away to finish 3rd with clutch problems to add to the return of the fuel feed problem, Huw was a solid 4th with Richard for close company in 5th. Andrew Williams had a long gap to Stephen Pearcy (7th) who only had couple of 10ths from Ken Rattenbury. Richard Hill (or was it David this time?) took a welcome Class B win with a steady drive to 9th profiting from Matthew and Lees problems. Douglas Bowkett was 10th with Matthew real close in 11th, then Anthony Allitt, Lee 13th and Adrian Chapman, getting his full 15 minutes in. For most it was an enjoyable end to the weekend, (although some were taking the extra endro race in as well!) but after the prizes were given and points were added Andrew Williams has strengthened his championship lead from Adrian Chapman, Lee David and Stephen Pearcy but Dave Krayem moves into joint 4th place with Graham Cole. So there is plenty still to race for, not least a first ever visit to Thruxton! Lets hope everyone wakes up and gets their entry form in early! Times etc on http://www.msttiming.com/home.asp |
