Round 7 Sunday 8th June .. Terry wins again but Nigel Bowen stars

 A number of drivers could not make it back for the Sunday race, with Peter Salter and Anthony Allitt missing from the regulars and the Caterhams and others only down for the Saturday. Jon Wolfe couldn’t make it after finishing the TR register race, but Malcolm Chapman gave his Eurocar Mondeo its series debut to make it 10 runners. Terry Brown took his customary pole with 56.493 secs with Peter Williams, Huw Williams and Richard Rozhon completing the Radical runners but this time they were all spaced equally apart. Alvin Powell lead the saloons in his classic Ford Mondeo, having sorted out his gear selection problems from Saturday but was now afflicted with a fuel feed problem but nonetheless was ahead of the on-form Rhys Lloyd who had couple of tenths to spare over Nigel Bowens Vauxhall Cavalier. The race 15 mins

It was a late start for the Welsh Championship race, and Terry Brown seemed to be in a rush to get his laps in before the 6.00 curfew. After Saturdays dramas, Terry made no mistake, banging in his fastest lap on lap 2 to create a cushion and he then extended his lead to a comfortable margin from Peter Williams with Huw Williams and Richard Rohzon all an equal distance from each other. Terry built an 18 second winning margin from Peter Williams who had a substantial lead from Huw, with Richard in 4^th place.

However if the Sports car section was drama free, the same could not have been said for the Saloon cars. Alvin had managed to borrow a fuel pump from Graham Miller but fuel pressure was still a problem. "I was driving with one hand on the pump switches and one hand on the wheel!" With one hand behind his back metaphorically, Alvin was easy prey for the fast starting Nigel Bowen and had Rhys Lloyd trying to get a look in. Having got a taste for victory on Saturday, Nigel was fired up and he lead out of Hatchets and made a robust defence of his place at the paddock turn to lead across the line at the end of the first lap. Alvin wanted the place too and he made a determined effort on the run down to Hatchets, however Nigel was determined to resist, prompting the commentator to comment that "Bowen is employing some width!" Indeed he was but Alvin was equally determined and made his pass at the paddock turn and this time made it through. Nigel wasn't dismayed and stayed in contact throughout the race.

Rhys Lloyd also drove well to stay on the same lap as the two ex-BTCC cars, pulling well clear of Andy Williams whose Risca Garages Sapphire had Malcolm Chapmans Eurocar in close contact early on until Malcolm lost a lot of time as the leaders came through and almost fell back into the clutches of Lee David. Malcolm said later "I lost the plot as the leaders came past and I spent a lot of the time looking in my mirrors"

Lee would have loved to take the scalp of the bigger car but Malcolm speeded up to be well clear by the end. Lee hopes to change his Golf to a Lancia Delta Intregale once he has converted his recent purchase, but he had Keiron Thomas, a prospective new member as company so we may find we may have a Golf and Lancia out soon.

So although the weekend saw a number of drivers rack up some useful points the early indications are that Rhodri Jenkins has retained his Championship lead, although that is probably the last thing on his mind at the moment. However the championship contenders all expressed their hopes that he will be back soon as that will mean that his daughter is on the mend.
