Rhodri Jenkins wins the 2003 Welsh Sports & Saloon Car Championship Swanseas Rhodri Jenkins won the 2003 Welsh Sports & Saloon Car Championship on a weekend that mixed triumph with minor disaster. Jenkins went into the weekends races at Pembrey needing only one 2nd place to seal the championship, and made sure of his points by winning his class in the first race on Saturday despite a close race which saw Jenkins Honda Civic only a second ahead of Christian Evans Golf GTi at the end; which was a considerable relief to the nervous Jenkins. "I was feeling all the noises and vibrations and fearing the worst but I was glad to seal it" Jenkins was feeling even happier to have made his points in the first race as a first lap incident in Sundays race left him stranded at the trackside. Jenkins triumph is the first for a saloon car driver since 1998 and with packed grids for the final races the Welsh Championship looks set for a super year in 2004. Practice reports follows below Practice and Race report from round 15 Congratulations received From Glynne Jones: Well done Rhodri. Good to see a tin top do the biz. Glynne Congratulations, Rhodri, on your championship success. Best Regards Ed McInerney Dublin
