Rhodri Jenkins wins the 2003 Welsh Sports & Saloon Car Championship

Swanseas’ Rhodri Jenkins won the 2003 Welsh Sports & Saloon Car Championship on a weekend that mixed triumph with minor disaster. Jenkins went into the weekends races at Pembrey needing only one 2^nd place to seal the championship, and made sure of his points by winning his class in the first race on Saturday despite a close race which saw Jenkins Honda Civic only a second ahead of Christian Evans Golf GTi at the end; which was a considerable relief to the nervous Jenkins. "I was feeling all the noises and vibrations and fearing the worst but I was glad to seal it" Jenkins was feeling even happier to have made his points in the first race as a first lap incident in Sundays race left him stranded at the trackside. Jenkins’ triumph is the first for a saloon car driver since 1998 and with packed grids for the final races the Welsh Championship looks set for a super year in 2004. Practice reports follows below
